A cross body bag keeps your hands free, from the morning commute to the evening out. A French leather house since 1898, Le Tanneur makes women's cross body bags in full-grain leather, from small styles that carry the essentials to medium ones that hold more of your day.
Full-grain leather, smooth or grained
Every Le Tanneur women's cross body bag is made from full-grain leather, the top layer of the hide, left with its natural grain. We work it two ways: smooth, for a clean finish, and grained, for a firmer surface that resists marks. Either way, it takes on a patina over the years instead of wearing out. All our leathers come from LWG-certified tanneries.
Small or medium
A small cross body carries the essentials: phone, cardholder, keys. A medium adds room for a wallet, sunglasses, or a slim tablet, and still sits close to the body. Each product page lists the exact measurements, so you can match the size to how you carry.
Black, tan, brown
Black is the most versatile and works with everything. Tan and cognac warm up an outfit and show the patina best. Each season we add collection colours in the same leathers.
Worn across or on the shoulder
The strap adjusts in length, and on some styles it detaches. Wear the bag across the body to keep your hands free while travelling, commuting, or out for the day, or shorten the strap for a shoulder carry. Some styles come with a second strap, in chain or leather, to change the look.
Questions & Answers
Q1. What can a cross body bag hold, and which size should I choose?
Start from what you carry each day. For a phone, cardholder, and keys, a small style is enough and stays light. If you also carry a wallet, sunglasses, or a slim tablet, a medium gives you the room without the bulk. Each product page lists the exact measurements, so you can check before you buy.
Q2. Is the strap adjustable, and can it be removed?
Yes. The strap adjusts in length for a cross body or shoulder carry, and on some styles it detaches. A few styles also come with a second strap. The strap length and options are listed on each product page.
Q3. How do I care for full-grain leather?
Full-grain leather is natural and hard-wearing, though like any fine leather it can mark. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth, keep it away from prolonged damp, and condition it once or twice a year with a colourless leather cream. Let it dry naturally if it gets caught in the rain, away from direct heat.
Q4. What is the difference between smooth and grained leather?
Both are full-grain leather. Smooth leather has a clean, even surface that shows the natural character of the hide. Grained leather is lightly embossed, which makes it firmer and better at hiding everyday marks. The choice is down to look and feel; both age into a patina.
